What Types of Community Engagements Are Provided?
Community Engagements can be divided into seven areas. The first four areas of community engagement can be provided by any member of the MSU Counseling Center. The last three require state-issued licenses to provide psychological, counseling, marriage & family, social work, or psychiatric services
- Information Services
Informing others about our services, such as at resource fairs, orientation activities, and welcome receptions. - Relationship Building
Establishing relationships with members of the the MSU community and other communities, such as being present at community events, participating in community activities, and attendance at student conferences. - Advising/Advocacy
Offering professional advice and advocacy for multicultural and racially-conscious services to the MSU community, such as student group sponsorship, university committee membership, faculty/staff associations, and sexual assault response. - Training & Education
Developing multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills in the campus community, such as in guest lectures, panel presentations, workshop facilitation, and skill training. - Consultation/Assessment
Providing professional consultation to the members of the campus community, such as consultation with residence life staff consultations and on-site assessments. - Clinical Intervention
Facilitating individual and communal healing within the campus community, such as conflict mediation and critical incident debriefing. - Individual or Group Counseling
Providing off-site individual or group counseling with voluntary informed consent.
